Shock & Oar clothing on the up and up

by Shock & Oar on 5 Apr 2011
Founders of Shock & Oar, Brendon and Deirdre Westerhout - looking forward to international growth in 2011. SW
Australian clothing brand Shock and Oar has recorded a 113% month over month sales increase for February 2011 compared to February 2010.

Managing Director Brendon Westerhout says the figure bodes a year of growth for the nautical leisurewear company, despite many clothing retailers reporting a drop in sales across Australia.

'The figures so far are encouraging. February’s 113% sales increase over last year shows the consumer’s affinity with our brand as we continue to provide quality clothing at a favourable price point,' he said. 'Shock & Oar has also recorded a 38% sales increase for January/February 2011 compared to the same period last year. This can be attributed in part to our recent marketing push and subsequent media coverage of the brand,' said Brendon.

According to Director of Sales and Marketing, Deirdre Westerhout, Shock & Oar was well received by local and national media groups. 'Throughout January and February we gained significant media coverage in Voyeur, the Virgin Blue in flight magazine, as well as notable West Australian newspapers The Post, Western Suburbs Weekly, and Community Newspapers. This has drawn many new customers to our retail store and e-commerce website,' said Deirdre.

'Special offers and promotions featuring Shock & Oar will also appear in That’s Life and Ultimate Boating and Lifestyle magazines in March and April respectively, helping keep the brand in the media and public eye.'

Shock & Oar has also expanded its online presence with the brand’s inclusion in three new e-commerce websites. 'We have recently grown our web presence with a range of products now selling through online marine retailer Marine Deals Direct (http://www.marinedealsdirect.com.au/brands/) and leisurewear retailer Tee 2 Sea (www.tee2sea.com).

'We are also looking to move clearance stock through a Shock & Oar e-Bay store, helping boost stock turnover and cash flow,' said Managing Director Brendon Westerhout. 'With such a buoyant start to the year we remain optimistic about our business growth into 2011,' he said.
