European Laser Standard Youth Championship & Trophy 2010

With rain and in the winds up to 18 knots with unpleasant waves, we had the first day of Finals for the European Laser Standard Youth Championship & Trophy 2010, which has taken place within the Gdynia Sailing Days event.

Not all sailors are able to maintain boats in such conditions, and as Barbara Grabarz, the head judge said 'some were even capsizing!'

Today, for example, the weather influenced Marrai Francesco (Italy) and Bigi Nedeleg (France), who completed the qualifications - appropriately - in 13th and 16th place. It shows how variable the form is of young sailors, and places may be changed significantly by a second discard.

On Saturday, the last two races will be sailed with the first warning signal at 11.00am. The closing ceremony of the regatta, which will be also be the closure of the three-week sailing holiday Gdynia Sailing Days, will take place at 5:00pm at Conrast Cafe. The mayor of City of Gdynia, Mr Wojciech Szczurek is expected.
