After a successful nations championship in Looe the Redwing fleet descended on Llys-Y-Fran reservoir in beautiful Pembrokeshire, over the weekend of August 1/2nd for their Inland event.
With light winds present and over two very sunny days 5 races were held in lovely conditions with triangular courses set by the excellent race management team of Alistair and Jan.
Racing was tight with multiple lead changes in every race as the crews got to grips with the shifty conditions as the breeze blew across the reservoir, but as always the cream rose to the top with R244 Robin Wood & Matt Goldwait scoring a seemingly perfect scoreline after discard of 3 points from 4 races, although to everyone's amusement the discard covered the specular light wind capsize that entertained the rest of the fleet no end!
So congratulations to Robin for completing the double by winning both the National and Inland Championships - with two separates crews! Thanks go to everyone that helped to organise the event and to our sponsor Coastwatersports for their amazing prizes.
A fifth fun race was also held to explore the upper sections of the reservoir in a pursuit race format, that proved very entraining in the narrow sections at the north end of the water, this was won by the Jacksons sailing R249.
Overall results:
1st R244 R. Wood & M. Goldwait
2nd R241 J. Cumpsty & H. Yeates
3rd R249 D. & S. Jackson
4th R228 B. & N. Dowell
5th R178 A. Mcdonald & M. James
Next up for the busy Redwing fleet is a return to Tenby for their annual Cadley Island race followed by the Redfoot Return race to Saundersfoot. For more information on the class please visit our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/nationalredwing
