For its 9th edition, the Trinité-Cherbourg by Actual race will see twelve crews set sail this Sunday, June 28th at 5 pm in Quiberon Bay. On the program: 7 boats in IRC Double-Handed and 5 in IRC Crewed, all determined not to be mere spectators.
Among the regulars of the event are Timeline, skippered by Marc Alperovitch, and Fastwave, skippered by Eric Fries, two competitors who fully intend to be among the frontrunners.
A legendary arrival in Cherbourg
This year, without the Fastnet Race, the Trinité-Cherbourg - originally created for crews preparing for the famous Cowes-Dinard-SNBSM - returns to its distinctive finish in Cherbourg: a passage to the west in the Grande Rade, close to Fort Chavagnac. But before reaching this spectacular finale, competitors will have to contend with the treacherous currents of the Raz de Sein, the Chenal du Four, and the Cotentin Peninsula. The 365-mile course, designed by race director Yves le Blevec, promises surprises and breathtaking views, particularly when passing the Wolfrock and Eddystone lighthouses off the coast of Great Britain.
Included in the RORC championship calendar for the past six years, the race has established itself as a flagship event of the IRC English Channel-Atlantic Championships for crewed and double-handed crews. It is also open to Multi 2000s, large trimarans, as well as IMOCAs and Class40s.
Race Director Yves le Blevec: "The race is getting ready. Competitors will be welcomed on Saturday for registration confirmations and on Sunday for the briefing and pre-race lunch before the 5:00 PM start. The weather conditions will be summery with variable conditions and fairly short periods of light winds. Judging by the field, the race will be exciting with commitment and decisive strategic choices."
