It was recently announced that the Musto Skiff European Championship 2025 will be hosted this July as part of Warnemünder Woche, the international sailing event and summer festival held annually in Warnemünde, Germany.

The Musto Skiff class is scheduled to race from 10 to 13 July, and event registration is now open, so if you are considering going, here is some insight from the German Class Association representative on the sailing conditions and what makes it such a good sailing venue.

What are the sailing conditions like at Warnemünde?

"I would say that Warnemünde offers the best nearshore sailing at the German Baltic Sea coast. Unlike Kiel, the Baltic Sea at Warnemünde is not sheltered from westerly winds. So even with westerly winds, you will have challenging waves—something Kiel only offers with easterly winds."

Why is Warnemünde such a great location for a sailing regatta?

"Unlike Kiel, the city is directly at the event. This makes it a much better location for any family members coming here. There is a nice beach as well. It is a quick train ride to the nearby city of Rostock. Part of the city's Hanseatic beauty survived the war and the following communist era and is worth visiting."

Is it a good location for a holiday?

"If anybody is planning to start/continue a holiday in mainland Europe from Warnemünde, there are lots of options. Berlin is 2.5 hrs down the Autobahn, and the coast east of Warnemünde up to and beyond the Polish border is very pretty (Darss, Stralsund, Ruegen, Usedom, Greifswald, etc.). Hope to see you there!"

How to enter the Musto Skiff European Championship 2025

This year's European Championship already has representation from Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Armenia, and the UK. However, the class needs a minimum entry of 20 boats to be part of Warnemünde Woche, so if you are considering entering, don't delay in registering your place.

How to enter:
1) Register via the 'classes' page on the Manage2Sail website here
2) See 'NOR - International' for the Musto Skiff class notice of race. This can be found on the Manage2Sail event noticeboard.

The entry fee for the Musto Skiff class is EUR 180, with 16 races planned across the four-day event. Sailors can enter with either the standard Musto Skiff mainsail or the smaller-sized 'mainsail X'. Further instructions for using the smaller mainsail X at organised regattas will be included in the sailing instructions.

Accommodation options for Warnemünde Woche

There are lots of accommodation options in and around Warnemünde, including hotels and several bed and breakfast venues. There is also the option of onsite camping for tents, campervans, and motorhomes. Find out more about camping at the regatta location on the official regatta website here.

For more details on the venue and main regatta location, visit the official Warnemünde Woche website page.

Want to do some extra sailing in Germany?

Immediately after the European Championship, the German Class Association will be hosting the 'Sommerregatta Walchensee', at Segelclub Walchensee e.V.

Pre-event training for Musto Skiffs will be hosted at Segelclub Walchensee e.V. on the 17th and 18th of July, with the main event weekend over the 19th and 20th of July.
