The first event of the series took place in cold overcast conditions with a reasonable breeze of around 14 knots. A short postponement was posted to allow a sharp 45 knot squall to work its way north.
The forecast was not totally encouraging but a good number of hardy souls ventured out to a choppy, murky Solent. Corrected time gave Nigel Thomas and Ollie Vennis Ozanne a first race win, their first time sailing together, 9 year old Ollie caught a bit of the Brass Monkey freezing business and sadly they retired for the second race, this paved the way for Neil Crossard and Max Hindroy to battle it out in Lasers.
These two lie on equal points for the series but there's plenty more racing to come. Non-members are welcome and have the chance of pitting their skills against Neil who finished 15th at the 41st Bloody Mary.
The afternoon was topped off with a scrumptious hot soup and crusty rolls arranged by Di Johnston which warmed everyone up and some post-race lively chat was had by all , in all a great way to spend a bleary Sunday.
Race 3 and 4 starts at midday on Sunday 19th Hill Head looks forward to seeing you.
