The Marina Sanctuary Cove brings clean marina total to 50

by MIAA on 5 Sep 2011
Sanctuary Cove Marina Manager Helen Motteram-Smith said the achievement of Clean Marina accreditation was another important step in demonstrating Sanctuary Cove’s commitment to environmental best practice. MIAA
The high profile Gold Coast marina at Sanctuary Cove has become the 50th marina in Australia to achieve Clean Marina accreditation. Recent Clean Marina auditing in Queensland has also resulted in Scarborough Marina and Coomera Waters Marina being re-accredited as Clean Marinas as part of the programs ongoing review process.

The Clean Marinas environmental program is administered by the Marina Industries Association of Australia (MIAA). The program includes an independent audit of 124 specific elements of the marina’s environmental related facilities, policies, plan and practices.

Sanctuary Cove Marina Manager Helen Motteram-Smith said the achievement of Clean Marina accreditation was another important step in demonstrating Sanctuary Cove’s commitment to environmental best practice. 'As a multi-faceted estate it is essential all components are operating both individually and collectively at the highest level of performance. The Clean Marinas program provides us with specific criteria to assess the environmental performance of our marina operations. The Clean Marina program complements our whole of estate environmental policies, plans and operations'.

MIAA President Andrew Chapman said Sanctuary Cove’s achievement was important for the marina industry as it is a high profile marina and influential in demonstrating environmental leadership to the wider community.

'The accreditation of Sanctuary Cove Marina means we now have 50 marinas across Australia committed to environmental best practise. Coomera Waters Marina and Scarborough Marina have had a longstanding commitment to the Clean Marinas program and to environmental leadership within their communities.

'The challenge for industry is to quickly increase the number of marinas committed to achieving Clean Marinas status.'
