Marinas 101 was held on 22 March at the Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay (RMYC BB), bringing together eight participants from diverse backgrounds.

The group included individuals at the beginning of their career journeys, all eager to gain insights into the marina industry and better understand the opportunities ahead.

A big thank you to Matt Hundleby CMM for leading the course. With over 30 years of industry experience, Matt delivered a detailed, dynamic, and insightful session that covered a wide range of key marina topics and sparked thoughtful discussion among attendees.

We are grateful to the RMYC BB for hosting the event and to Marina Manager Alasdair Wells CMM for providing a guided tour of the club. The day concluded with a visit to The Quays Marina across the bay, where Stephen Hosking CMM gave attendees a tour and shared his knowledge of the site's unique operations. It was a fantastic opportunity for the participants to explore two marinas located close to each other, each with its own distinct business model and approach to customer service and operations.

Everyone walked away with valuable knowledge and a deeper understanding of the marina industry. It was inspiring to see such strong engagement and interest from the next generation of marina professionals.

Marina101 is a one-day course designed specifically for those early in their marina careers and will provide them with the core skills and insights they need to thrive.

Key topics covered include:

  • Marina Infrastructure: A thorough understanding of the components that make up a marina.
  • Day-to-day Operations: Insight into the daily tasks and responsibilities involved in running a marina.
  • Work Health and Safety: Best practices to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
  • Customer Service: Essential skills for providing exceptional service to marina customers.
  • Emergency Procedures: Preparation for potential emergencies and response protocols.
  • Marina Site Tour: A practical, on-site tour to reinforce classroom learning.

The next Marinas 101 course will be held on 11 October in Queensland, Australia.
