Australia II wins America’s Cup - September 1983 SW
In September 1983, the crew of Australia II broke the United States' 132-year grip on the America’s Cup.
On Saturday night, the team that brought the America's Cup to Australia celebrated the 25th anniversary of its historic win in Fremantle.
30 members of the original crew, on and off water including Alan Bond and skipper John Bertrand and other members of the winning team gathered at the Western Australian Maritime Museum, the home of Australia II and its famous winged keel.
The America's Cup was secretly flown from Switzerland to Perth for Saturday night's celebration and it was showcased at the anniversary function, the first time it had been on Australian soil in 21 years.
