Spanish Champions, BMW Rex Motors of Manuel WEILLER (ESP) took the lead on day two of the inaugural Estrella Galicia Platu 25 World Championship, knocking 2005 ISAF Rolex World Sailors of the Year Fernando ECHAVARRI and Anton PAZ (ESP) off the top spot in Vigo, Spain.

Weiller and the BMW Rex Motors posted two bullets and an eighth in yesterday’s three light wind races to take over in the top spot. ECHAVARRI and Anton PAZ lie second overall sailing Movistar – Vilagarcía, two points off the lead.

Gonzalo ARAUJO (ESP) on Balearia is third thanks to his consistent finishing.

In fourth position is La Revoltosa from Germany, with Joachin HELLMICH at the helm. Italian Sandro MONTEFUSCO follows in fifth on G&BL.

Conditions made it tough for the Race Committee on Thursday, with the lack of wind delaying the start of the first of three races until 1500. During the afternoon, Vigo's bay became a colourful show, with 82 boats competing for the first ever Platu 25 World title.

Again, the fleet was split in two groups, one yellow and one blue, to ease the congestion. After three races, added to the two races from Wednesday, the teams can now discard their worst result, which significantly changed the results. After the fifth race, the fleet was split in silver and gold groups. The top 41 boats will begin the fight for the World Championship title today.
