Maritimo appoints new GM, Operations

by Promedia on 29 Oct 2013 A marine industry business executive whose career spans more than 20 years has joined luxury cruiser manufacturer Maritimo as General Manager- Operations.

For Phil Candler the move to Maritimo sees him re-join his former boss of more than 15 years, Bill Barry-Cotter, founder of the Maritimo Company.

Candler worked for Barry-Cotter at Riviera before moving on to the MTU Detroit Diesel shortly after Barry-Cotter sold out of the Riviera business.

'Bill and I go back a long way and while my time at MTU has been very rewarding it is good to be back involved in the design and manufacture side of the marine business,' he said.

'I have always had a passion for the design side of the marine business and Bill’s focus on engineering and performance excellence is something that I personally greatly enjoy.

'I have shifted from one side of the road to the other at the Coomera Marine Precinct and I am looking forward to the exciting times ahead with Maritimo, pushing our new models and being involved in the development of new boats.'

Maritimo CEO, Garth Corbitt, said the company was delighted to welcome Phil Candler aboard.

'Phil has a great deal of experience in the marine industry and he and Bill have worked closely together in the past so we are looking forward to his contributing to Maritimo’s ongoing success,' he said.

'Our focus is on design and performance while also continually improving quality in our product and having someone like Phil in charge of all operations will greatly assist us in those endeavors.'

Candler said since 2009 he has been responsible for all after sales and group operations nationally for MTU. 'It has been exciting and rewarding, but I am really looking forward to being part of the team that Bill has pulled together to take Maritimo forward,' he said.
