America's Cup- Artemis Racing's David Brooke leaves San Fran hospital

The family of David Brooke (NZL), a veteran of several America's Cup campaigns and Volvo Ocean Races, have advised that he is continuing a successful recovery after an emergency liver transplant in mid April, in San Francisco.

In an email today, his father Don Brooke, once again thanked and updated all those who had sent messages of support to the family.

'Good news....We have David home with us at our apartment which is very close to the hospital. He will be treated now as an outpatient on four out of the five days each week. This is to monitor the liver transplant and to continue with the kidney dialysis.

'We, as his caregivers have to administer a heap of drugs that must be taken throughout the day at specified times. The last is at 8 pm so we can all sleep until 7am the next morning when it all starts over, and then the visits to the various clinics.

'David is a lot brighter, but is taking some time to reconcile to this illness. All the teams here have been supportive ... especially Artemis as you would expect.

'This is an experience that we tackle day by day, but now it appears to have a future, and we are so thankful for the thoughts of our friends when the chips were down.'

At the time he collapsed in his apartment, Brooke was Tender Fleet Manager for the Swedish America's Cup Challenger Artemis Racing.

His immediate family traveled to San Francisco as soon as the seriousness of Brooke's condition was known, and have been with him since them.
