Tomorrow, the official start in the San Marco Canal for the first of nine coastal stages. Ten elite international crews and three different disciplines in a unique format worldwide, under the auspices of FIV and RORC, for a strategic and physical marathon spanning 1,250 nautical miles.

Everything is ready in Venice for the inaugural act of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2026 - Il Giro d'Italia a Vela. Tomorrow, Thursday, June 4, the waters of the San Marco Basin will serve as the theater for the start of the first leg of one of the most selective and fascinating offshore competitions on the international sailing scene. The program will kick off at 10:30 AM at the Italian Navy Officers' Club (Circolo Ufficiali della Marina Militare, Fondamenta Arsenale) with the official presentation of the teams, before moving to the racecourse at 1:00 PM, when the starting signal will be given for the opening stage bound for Cattolica.

Organized by Difesa Servizi S.p.A. in close collaboration with the Italian Navy (Marina Militare) and SSI Sport & Events, the event enjoys the institutional support of the Minister for Sport and Youth. Under the auspices of the Italian Sailing Federation (Federazione Italiana Vela - FIV) and with the prestigious patronage of CONI, the Giro d'Italia a Vela 2026 confirms its status as a premier event on the seasonal racing calendar.

A unique format worldwide: three disciplines for an ultimate challenge

The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour stands out on the international stage due to a revolutionary multidisciplinary formula that combines three different souls of yachting into a single event. The teams will compete in three distinct categories: Offshore, grueling open-sea navigation on Bénéteau Figaro 3 foiling monohulls; Inshore, fast and technical windward-leeward regatas around the buoys aboard the dynamic Waszp.

Board, bringing the acrobatic and high-speed spectacle of Wing Foil close to the beaches. This innovative approach has earned the prestigious patronage of the world's leading sailing authorities, including RORC, Eurosaf, and World Sailing, consecrating the event as a unique global competitive phenomenon.

A 1,250-mile marathon: the tactical and physical challenge

The route of the Giro d'Italia a Vela 2026 promises to be a true test of endurance for both crews and boats. A 1,250-nautical-mile marine marathon that, over forty days, will circumnavigate the Italian Peninsula, ideally linking the Adriatic Sea to the Ligurian Sea. After setting sail from Venice, the fleet will stop in Cattolica, Vieste, Taranto, Siracusa, Tropea, Naples, and Portoferraio, before crossing the final finish line in Genoa on July 12.

From a competitive standpoint, every single leg will turn into a complex chess match against the elements. The jagged morphology of the Italian coastlines and the meteorological variability of the Mediterranean will demand unceasing physical effort and constant tactical clarity from the athletes.

The first stage: the hazards of the Venice-Cattolica route

The opening leg between the Venetian Lagoon and Cattolica represents a highly strategic debut filled with pitfalls for the offshore racers. Navigating the northern part of the Adriatic Sea requires wise short- and medium-term tactical management: teams will have to contend with shallow waters, residual lagoon currents, and sudden coastal wind shifts typical of this basin.

The transition from the protected Venetian waters to the open sea will immediately test the responsiveness of the crews aboard the Figaro 3s. In this first leg, the ability to read the afternoon thermal breezes and plan the ideal route to bypass offshore platforms and commercial shipping lanes will make all the difference, establishing the first gaps in the general standings before heading south.

High-profile fleet: top Italian and international teams at the start

The high quality of the competition is guaranteed by the presence of ten top-tier teams, ready to field ocean sailors, Olympic athletes, and the finest talents of the new generation. The starting grid features a strong matchup between teams representing the Italian armed forces and state corps, and the most prestigious international yacht clubs.

Here is who will compete for the title of the Giro d'Italia a Vela 2026: Aeronautica Militare (ITA); Team Poland (POL), Flushing Sailing Club (ENG), Cambridge University Yacht Club (ENG), Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee (VSaW) (ENG), C.N. Sambenedettese (ITA), Exe Sailing Club (ENG), Guardia Di Finanza (ITA), Marina Militare (ITA) Bayerische Yacht Club (ENG).

The festivities ashore and media partnership with Rai and Ansa

The event will also extend its engagement ashore through the Sailing Village (Villaggio della Vela), an exhibition and entertainment area that will liven up the squares of the host cities for over forty days. Accessible free of charge to tourists, families, and enthusiasts, the village will host close encounters with the skippers, themed conferences, film screenings, and live musical performances.

The media impact of the event will be guaranteed by premier coverage: Radio Rai will follow the entire tour as the official media partner, broadcasting live from the stage villages, supported by daily news releases and in-depth reports from the Ansa agency.

The official web portal, accessible at www.nastrorosatour.it, will be fully operational starting tomorrow, June 4, offering the detailed schedule of stages, real-time race updates, and the full program of all free activities in the villages.
