The Spring Recovering Warrior Sailing Regatta, sponsored by Move United, was one of CRAB's best in many years. The six warriors raced in perfect weather conditions with 10-13 mph winds from the South.

One-foot seas, plus 2-3' boat wakes, hardly bothered the valiant warriors during five tough races out on the bay.

To start the event with the proper pomp and circumstance, CRAB's very own Joel McCord played a solo rendition of the National Anthem on his trumpet. He played a gig the previous evening and was still on his "A-game" for the warriors.

CRAB President Paul "Bo" Bollinger served as the PRO for the regatta, and the RC members were Tom French and Mitch Buchman doing the scoring, and "Admiral" Elizabeth Bollinger took photos at the start and finish line. Fleet Director Leo Scanlon drove the mark boat along with Allan Adamson, who provided some excellent on-water photography, which can be viewed on the CRAB Facebook page and website.

The course started off Chesapeake Harbor, and the first turning mark was set toward Tolly Point, past the Lake Ogleton. The second mark was to be slightly farther North of the last Severn River mark and well East of it. The course created a windward first leg, a downwind second leg, and a nice beat for the finish line. The course was efficiently set by the race committee, with most races complete within 15-17 minutes.

Back at the CRAB ABC, a delicious, complimentary lunch was provided by Mission BBQ and served by more volunteers. The final scoring was exceptionally close with only one point separating first from second place.

1st Place went to Richard Krotee, a long-time sailor at CRAB, with Ed Riehl as the CRAB volunteer skipper and Mimi Englesman as crew. 2nd Place was earned by Rear Admiral (ret) Tim McGee and his regular CRAB volunteer USNA crewmate, Paul Van Cleve, and Maude Laurence. 3rd Place went to Bill Yurek with Dillion Hale and Ken Weise sailing with him. The highly coveted Spirit Award was awarded to Jackie Kostas for her enthusiasm throughout the regatta and leading up to the event.

We are looking forward to a great RWSR with the USNA in September! Please be on the lookout for warriors who want to sail in a wonderful and rewarding event.
