Universal rig management on Garmin, Raymarine, and B&G for the first time.

Digitalisation has delivered huge benefits to yacht owners. Particularly when monitoring safe, efficient rig loading.

But translating raw data into meaningful insights can be a barrier. Smart Rig Manager changes that - turning complex numbers into clear, actionable guidance via the instruments you already use.

Rig monitoring empowers sailors with on-screen guidance:

  • At the dock: Tune to rig manufacturer specifications before sailing, replacing traditional guesswork with clear visual dials, making the perfect dock tune accessible, even for less experienced sailors.

  • On the water: Efficient use of rigging & sails, and alerts before equipment failure occurs.

  • After sailing: Access sailing analysis, benefit from data-driven learning (e.g. sail selection and when to reef), and see equipment fatigue data, enabling you to plan preventative maintenance.

Smart Rig Manager

Smart Rig Manager comes from the market leader in load monitoring for sailing yachts, Cyclops Marine. Bringing a universal load monitoring platform to Garmin, Raymarine, and B&G for the first time.

Rather than raw load data, simple, personalised dashboards offer an elevated, intuitive user experience. Its flexible, multifunction display can be used in conjunction with other apps and it is also available remotely via the Cloud.

What Does It Mean For Owners?

Before setting sail

Sail away with a yacht that is tuned according to the OEM hull, mast and sail configuration for safety and performance.

Manufacturers provide a set of recommended tensions to tune the rig to. However, owners generally have no way of ensuring they return to these settings. With Smart Rig Manager, the optimal tensions of your yacht, and maximum working loads are preprogrammed into the software, making it easy to maintain safety and efficiency - just as you maintain recommended tyre pressures on a car dashboard.

While sailing

Live feedback on the water provides reassurance that loading remains safe, and alerts you if overload or underload become increasing risks. This gives peace of mind to enjoy your sail, and an efficient boat set up, while safe in the knowledge of your rig's limits.

While most sailors guard against overload (catastrophic gear failure), underloading also poses a threat to equipment. Causing work-hardening spots which take years off the life of standing rigging, underloading can lead to failure if unchecked over time. Smart Rig Manager keeps you in the "sweet spot" - protecting your investment both from sudden failure and long-term fatigue.

Trip analysis gives you an awareness of loading trends, so you can improve future decision making. This is especially important when getting to grips with a new yacht, new sails, sail configurations or materials. It can also assist owners when deciding whether a rig safety check is necessary after enduring heavy conditions.

Transition from calendar to condition-based maintenance

Fatigue monitoring captures the lifespan of your equipment, based on usage - predicting when specific components need servicing and replacing. Never wait until equipment failure, never replace unnecessarily.

When you sell the yacht

Offer peace of mind to potential future owners by providing evidence-based, documented history.

When you buy a used yacht

Purchase a yacht in the knowledge that it has been treated with care. Understand the lifespan of equipment and its recommended service schedule.

"We firmly believe that Smart Rig Manager can transform the future of yacht ownership, and help protect every stakeholder along the way—from designers, to riggers, to service providers and insurers."
- Ian Howarth, CEO, Cyclops Marine

What It Means For The Yachting Industry

Smart Rig Manager creates a traceable feedback loop which can improve the services offered by manufacturers, riggers, charter operators, service providers, and more - enabling them to verify how owners have been sailing, and making recommendations for improvement.

New yachts have a period of bedding in - standing rigging is settling the first few times it is under load, and owners are just getting acquainted with their rigs. This makes the first few retunes super-important. Smart Rig Manager makes them simple, and speeds up the learning process - avoiding unnecessary warranty claims.

Smart Rig Manager is available now on B&G, Raymarine and Garmin instruments, via a Cyclops Gateway. It is used in conjunction with load sensors from Cyclops Marine.

Your yacht manufacturer may already offer Cyclops as standard fit or optional upgrade. Speak to us to find out.
