2026 29er EuroCup 3 at Marina Koper, Slovenia - Day 1
by 29er Class 19 Mar 17:28 PDT
19-22 March 2026
The 2026 29er EuroCup in Koper opened with exactly what this class thrives on: breeze, waves, and high-intensity racing.
A fleet of 47 crews from 13 nations hit the water in the Gulf of Koper, setting the tone for four days of competition where speed, teamwork, and decision-making make all the difference. From the very first start, it was clear this would be no easy regatta.
The opening races were sailed in a solid 20-25 knots, pushing teams to their limits, before conditions settled slightly to 12-20 knots later in the day. Still, the pressure remained high — a true test of control, communication, and consistency across the fleet.
At the front, Sweden's H. Wigforss / W. Drakenberg found their rhythm early and take the overnight lead. Close behind, Austria's M. Schauer / F. Schauer and Poland's M. Kosmowski / J. Marjanski are already in pursuit, keeping the leaderboard tight after the first day of racing.
Among the women's crews, Finland's M. Kauppi / A. Kylavainio lead the ranking and currently sit in an impressive 8th place overall, confirming the high level of competition across the fleet.
The next generation is making its presence felt as well. In the U17 fleet, K. Kurzeja / J. Loesti (GER), L. Hespe / S. Kampa (GER), and P. Murena / G. Marassi (ITA) showed impressive confidence in the stronger breeze, marking themselves as crews to watch.
With more racing ahead and conditions expected to stay favorable, Koper promises more action, more pressure, and plenty of shifts in the standings before the final day. Racing resumes tomorrow with the first warning signal scheduled for 11:00.
