Unbeatable inshore racing apparel for serious racers

Musto, the world's leading performance sailing brand, launches their latest iteration of LPX jackets, smocks, salopettes, and shorts, delivering unbeatable inshore racing apparel. Lightweight, waterproof, highly breathable, and fast-drying gear that enables unrestricted movement and seamless transitions when racing, each garment has been designed meticulously where every feature puts performance first.

The new LPX collection is powered by GORE-TEX ePE technology. GORE-TEX, Musto's waterproof fabric partner for over 30 years, has developed a new type of membrane free from PFAS chemicals, called ePE. ePE is not only more sustainable, it is durable and lighter whilst remaining 100% waterproof.

"The use of GORE-TEX ePE membrane was the next logical step for LPX as we shift towards a more sustainable manufacturing future whilst still able to offer optimum performance," said Musto Marketing Director, Nick Houchin. "Designed for elite performance, the LPX range worn by sailors at the very top of the sport delivers exceptional waterproof protection, breathability, and freedom of movement, enabling athletes to operate at full intensity in the most challenging conditions."

The new LPX GORE-TEX jacket provides the ultimate protection and comfort with fully taped seams, detachable hood, water-resistant centre front zipper with a medium-height collar featuring brushed tricot lining, water resistant secure storage pockets, and adjustable shock cord hems and cuffs to give a customisable fit. The LPX GORE-TEX smock, popular with foredeck crew, comes with water resistant seals featuring PU-coated stretch jersey collar and cuffs with a neoprene hem and adjusters ensuring a snug yet comfortable seal at the neck, underarm gussets, and articulated sleeves to give unrestricted movement.

"Having the right kit isn't a nice-to-have, it's critical," said Dylan Fletcher, Emirates GBR SailGP Driver, on their decision to utilise the re-engineered LPX GORE-TEX smock in the team's technical sailing kit list. Musto became official clothing partner to the Emirates GBR SailGP Team at the start of the year.

Racing teams typically have a strong focus on short, intense race courses with frequent bouts of training. Their mindset is meticulous and competitive, prioritising marginal gains, crew efficiency, and race wins.

Musto's LPX Collection has also been selected by the crew onboard the TP52, Gladiator.

"We race across all sorts of conditions; the TP52s are pretty well suited to very light airs but also very windy conditions with massive waves," said Joey Newton, America's Cup sailor, sailmaker, and trimmer on Gladiator. "We tested out the new Musto LPX inshore racing gear and for me, as a trimmer, my job is not so physical but in hot conditions I can wear a light shell LPX smock top and not overheat, and be comfortable the whole way round the track.

"In terms of the LPX, that exceeds what we need onboard," continued Newton. "We go to Musto to make sure it is more than what we need, and that is what they delivered with the new LPX. You put it on, it's perfect, and you go racing, and that's what we need out there on the water."

The LPX GORE-TEX jacket and smocks are matched with new salopettes and shorts that come with the same meticulous attention to design detail. High-stretch jersey on shoulders and back provide unrestricted movement and enhanced breathability in the salopettes along with a two-way zipper opening and extremely durable abrasion resistant fabric on the knees and seat. A belt loop arrangement on the shorts allows for a multi-tool holder to be attached.

David 'Freddie' Carr, part of Britain's Louis Vuitton Cup winning team in 2024 and a serial pro racer knows the importance of having the right kit: "If you're wearing kit that's not right, it actually takes away from the boat's performance because you overheat and you don't put the power through the handles or the gybe drops aren't that good," said Carr. "To put on the right kit at the beginning of the day is super important."

Last but not least, LPX GORE-TEX garments feature internal owner labels for easy personalisation, minimising mix-ups with teammates' gear! The new products are supported by Musto's existing LPX range of tops, pants, and accessories to fully kit out any racer or team.

Aesthetics matter insofar as they reinforce professionalism and the new LPX range delivers sleek, innovative design in three different colourways - true red, platinum, and black - visually unifying the crew while signalling technical excellence.
