Youth Icicle Series 2026 at Bough Beech Sailing Club - Day 3

by Alastair Moppett 9 Feb 18:02 UTC 4 January - 22 February 2026

Day three of the Youth Icicle brought with it stronger breeze (yay) but also rain (boo). Forty-seven boats started race five, under Uniform and the watchful eye of race officer Rory Moppett.

Sevenoaks School sailors dominated the first race of the afternoon, making up seven of the top ten. Samuel and Phoebe took the win in an RS Feva from Jamie and Josh in a Firefly, with Charlie from Tonbridge Town SC third in his ILCA 6.

The wind picked up for race six, and the increased pressure meant that there was brisk business for the safety boats stationed on the run. Mistakes are an opportunity for learning: some of that learning was done in the water rather than on it. Tonbridge Town's ILCA ambassador Charlie went one better with a second place, splitting a Sevenoaks School podium of PG and Reuben in first, and Peggy and Sophia in third, both in Fevas.

Charlie leads overall with two races to go, with Samuel and Harry in the 420 second, and another Harry third in an ILCA 7. The 2026 Youth Icicle will conclude on 28th February. Laying on a youth racing series is made possible by a large number of people volunteering their time: thank you to all.
