The Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA) is set to launch its annual 'See You Out There' campaign on 1 November, as part of the Discover Boating initiative inviting Australians to experience the freedom, connection and wellbeing that comes from spending time on the water.

BIA CEO Andrew Fielding said, "Boating is one of Australia's great outdoor pastimes, with something to offer everyone - from relaxed paddling and family fishing trips to sailing and powerboating adventures.

"Australians have a natural affinity with the water and boating brings people together, encourages outdoor activity, and delivers proven mental and physical health benefits," Fielding said.

"Research shows that being on or near the water can reduce stress, boost happiness and enhance overall wellbeing. It's a chance to disconnect from screens, connect with loved ones and enjoy our great outdoors."

With more than 85 per cent of Australians living within 50 kilometres of the coast, it's no surprise that boating continues to be one of the nation's favourite leisure activities. Nearly one in five Australian households own a boat or watercraft, from powerboats and personal watercraft to paddleboards and small sailing craft, and participation continues to grow.

Key statistics issued earlier this year by the BIA identified that across Australia:

  • 1 in 10 people have a boat licence
  • 900,000+ boats are registered
  • 900,000 approx additional craft that are not required to be registered (e.g. small sail and paddle craft)
  • 10 per cent of registered vessels are personal watercraft, fastest growing segment
  • 67 per cent of boats are under 6 metres
  • 49 per cent of boating trips are to go fishing
The campaign aims to inspire both newcomers and seasoned boaters to make the most of Australia's waterways, promoting the social, emotional, and health benefits of boating. It showcases how time on the water, whether for sport, relaxation, or family fun, creates lasting memories and strengthens bonds.

"Boating is inclusive, accessible and good for you," Fielding said. "It doesn't matter your age, experience or budget - there's a way for everyone to enjoy life on the water."

Club Marine CEO Tim Wiles says "We're proud to support the BIA's campaign, which plays such an important role in inspiring more Australians to experience the joy of being on the water. At Club Marine, we're passionate about helping people enjoy their boating lifestyle with confidence and this campaign perfectly aligns with our commitment to growing and supporting the boating community."

BIA is also working closely with dry stack storage providers to promote the benefits of using such services, with a dedicated program launching soon as part of the main campaign.

Last year the campaign reached seven and a half million viewers on TV, recorded seven million digital impressions and more than three million video views, and the 2025 campaign aims to capture new audiences with the call to action of "Adventure Awaits. See You Out There."

The campaign runs across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania until 15 February 2026 and is supported by Century Batteries, GMSV, Club Marine and Boating Industry Association of Victoria. The campaign will feature across TV and digital channels, along with BIA's own social and email marketing.
