Storm Amy failed to prevent the NSSA Singlehanded Team Racing going ahead this weekend. Hosted by the Worcestershire Youth Sailing Association at Upton Warren. A total of 22 teams were entered for the event which used the new KSail double race Swiss League Format.
Amy did make her presence felt, however, as it became obvious that most of the sailors could not cope with the conditions on Saturday morning. After five races were completed all the sailors were taken off the water and treated to various coaching sessions by the Umpires until conditions improved. Racing was able to re-commence around 2.30 and a total of around twenty races were completed by the end of the day.
Sunday saw much better conditions and a further ninety races were sailed, most of the time with two reefs in the Topper mainsails. After a total of one hundred and ten races plus a number of re-sails Stage two commenced with semi's and finals. This was a rather insular affair, as it comprised of three North East and Yorkshire Youth Sailing (NEYYSA) teams and the Rutland Rebels.
NEYYSA Top Hats beat NEYYSA Wear 2:0 and Rutland Rebels beat MEYYSA Nidd 2:1 to take their place in the final. In some very close racing the Rutland Rebel team of Luke, Oli & Jude (see photo) went on to win the event with a 2:0 victory over the Top Hats.
Various other prizes were awarded with NEYYSA taking home the Lancaster Silver Jubilee Plate, as the most improved team and the Angus Wesley Trophy for the best under 16 Team while the Plymouth Trophy for an under 12 went to Worcestershire.
