ILCA Senior European Championship 2025 in Marstrand, Sweden - Day 2

by Agustín Argüelles, EurILCA 13 Aug 01:20 PDT 9-16 August 2025

The second day of racing at the 2025 ILCA Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy brought ideal late-summer conditions to Marstrand, with bright sunshine, a steady 7-10 knot breeze, and a gentle one-metre swell rolling across the racecourse.

Two new races were added to the scoreboard in each of the three fleets, marking solid progress in the championship series.

The ILCA 7 fleets were first to get under way, launching promptly at 09:30 as scheduled. After a smooth departure from shore, racing began shortly at 11:00. The ILCA 6 fleets followed 45 minutes later, maintaining a well-organised sequence on the ramp and the water.

With a reliable breeze and a low, rolling swell setting the pace, the race programme ran like clockwork. The ILCA 7s and ILCA 6s completed their races without major delays, and the overall timing of the day was efficient from first launch to the last boat ashore.

By around 14:30, the first fleets were making their way back to the marina, greeted by the golden afternoon light of the Swedish coast. Sailors washed down their boats, swapped their sailing gear for shore clothes, and gathered by the waterfront to enjoy a hearty pasta meal with the picturesque backdrop of Marstrand's harbour.

With four races now complete across all fleets, the championship is well under way, and anticipation is building for the next day's battles on the water.

Race Day 2 Leaders:

ILCA 7 European Championship

1 Lorenzo Chiavarini ITA 8 pts
2 Duko Bos NED 8 pts
3 Michael Beckett GBR 9 pts
4 Willem Wiersema NED 10 pts
5 Ewan McMahon IRL 10 pts

It was second day of the championship and really nice. 6 to 8 knots, really nice waves downwind. I had two nice starts and managed to get into phase quick. Really happy with the day, but it's a long week and just have to go one at a time - Lorenzo Chiavarini ITA

ILCA 7 Under 23 European Championship

1 Finley Dickinson GBR 11 pts
2 Rem Pulci Magen ISR 11 pts
3 Omer Vered Vilenchik ISR 21 pts

Yes, it's a nice opportunity (the Under 23 championship), but at the same time, I'm just treating it as a normal Europeans. I'm trying to do the best that I can in the fleet. I'm not treating it as a as a separate championship so, you know, if it works out at the end of the day, works out at the end of the day, but there's a lot of strong competition in the Under 23 fleet at the moment - Finley Dickinson GBR

ILCA 6 Women European Championship

Anna Munch DEN 9 pts
Agata Barwinska POL 12 pts
Eve McMahon IRL 14 pts
Chiara Benini ITA 19 pts
Magdalena Kwasna POL 20 pts

First race I made it hard for myself. I had a really really bad start but I just managed to find my my way up through the fleet again and had like a decent race. And then last one was really, really good so yeah, I'm happy. The last two days it's been really nice conditions, like today, a little bit lighter wind but still enough to have fun on the downwind and I mean, the waves they're just beautiful and sun is out, it's like really good conditions, I think for everyone - Anna Munch DEN

Eve McMahon IRL 14 pts
Mirja Dohle GER 29 pts
Alexandra Lukoyanova BUL 31 pts
