RS Aero World & Youth World Championship, ENVSN, Quiberon, France - Day 3 & 4

by RS Aero International Class Association 2 Aug 06:52 UTC 27 July - 2 August 2025

Beautiful Brittany weather and a good variety of fair breezes have graced the RS Aero World & Youth World Championship at Quiberon, France, so far after 4 days of intense racing and international with 170 RS Aeros representing 17 nations over the four RS Aero Class rig sizes.

The convivial Championship dinner on Tuesday was followed by the mid-week awards and Top-Tips on Wednesday where Rooster France and RS Sailing France kindly donated 12 vouchers totalling a whopping 540 Euro that was randomly raffled through the whole entry list. The race winners over the RS Aero Classes provided their Top-Tips on how they won their races to the large audience, enjoying a sunny evening overlooking Quiberon Bay from the ENVSN.

12 good races have been achieved for the RS Aero 5s and 6s whilst 11 have been achieved for the RS Aero 7s and 9s.

The largest Class this year it the RS Aero 5 with 62 competitors and gender parity with 50% male/female. Raphael Olsthoorn (FRA) now leads the ranking going in to the final day after a emphatic 1,1,1 on Day 4. In 2nd is Chloe George (GBR) and 3rd is Roscoe Martin (GBR).

The ever-popular RS Aero 6 is also enjoying record numbers with their 50 boats. Reigning champion Sofiia Naumenko (UKR) continues to lead with 5 wins in her score. Andrew Frost (GBR) has stepped up to 2nd with Sam Blaker (GBR) in 3rd.

The RS Aero 7s have quite a mix of sailors taking the top spots in races. Peter Barton (GBR) is in the top spot now with 5 wins from 11 races. 2nd is Jack Miller (GBR) and Mark Ripley (GBR) is in 3rd.

The RS Aeros 9 s are loving the mixed conditions, enjoying exciting and close racing. After four days it is Ben Flower (CAN) out in front by just 2 points from Nick Craig in 2nd and Madhavan Thirumalai (USA) in 3rd.

Going into the final day it is all to play for up and down the fleets, overall and in each of the various categories.

The RS Aero Class is once again continuing to support Ukrainian humanitarian relief at this Championship, to help relieve the suffering which continues in the Ukraine. Competitors may collect a mini Ukrainian sail sticker flag from the event Registration to place on their sail next to their own national flag, as a visual sign of support and solidarity. Competitors can use the QR codes available to make a voluntary donation to the relief charities.

Thanks to Rooster, RS Sailing France and RS Sailing for their support.
