On Thursday 8 May, Marina Ibiza once again turned into the place to be for corporate yachting, acting as a host port in this annual event that has already anchored itself as an essential event on the calendar.

During this ninth edition of the APD Crossing Regatta, eleven yachts and around one hundred and twenty executives from companies in Ibiza and Palma sailed between the islands, with the Cala Figuera Lighthouse as the starting point, Tagomago as the finish line, and Marina Ibiza as the host port of arrival, once again bolstering the link between the corporate and the yachting worlds.

On this occasion, in addition to providing its facilities and hospitality for the event, Marina Ibiza snatched victory aboard the electric sailboat Galaxie, a classic, robust and efficient boat that surprised everyone in the final classification.

Despite the lack of wind for much of the day, which led many teams to resort to the engine before reaching the finish line, some yachts managed to complete the course under sail and within the set time. One of them was the Galaxie, standing out for her resilience, the skill of her crew and their determination, sailing flawlessly until whizzing over the finish line. The experience and rapport among the onboard team were key to adapting to the changing conditions and notching up a well-deserved victory as Marina Ibiza's representative.

The Galaxie, a Chantier de Biot 70 based at Marina Ibiza itself, won this edition thanks to the rating system, which matches the conditions of boats of different characteristics. Although in the first phase of the race, especially when passing the unmarker buoy, the heavier boat seemed to lag behind other lighter ones, when the weather conditions changed and the wind increased, the Galaxie rolled out her full potential and speed.

"It was a technical race, in which we held back until it was our time. As the wind got stronger, the Galaxie behaved like a true thoroughbred, and that meant we could make up distances and end up with a very favourable corrected time", explained Raimon Martinez, Captain of the Galaxie.

The Galaxie is a 100% electric sailboat, so a true benchmark for sustainable sailing. Fully aware of its commitment to the environment, Marina Ibiza chose to sail aboard this vessel to align its participation with its philosophy of supporting environmentally responsible initiatives and promoting the use of clean technologies in sport.

What's more, as part of the social commitment of the race, a €3,400 donation was made to the Ibiza and Formentera Association for Mental Health, thanks to the collaboration of all the participating companies. CaixaBank, in its support of the cause, doubled this amount, adding a significant total of €7,700 to go towards local projects.

The race ended with the traditional awards ceremony at Sa Calma restaurant in the marina, where Marcos Marí, CEO of Marina Ibiza, said that "we're proud to see how Marina Ibiza continues to be a meeting point for the business community at sea. To have hosted this edition and, what's more, to have won with our own team, has been hugely satisfying for everyone. We will continue to support initiatives like this one, which combine sport, networking and a passion for sailing".

With this victory, Marina Ibiza confirms its role as a go-to venue for top-class yachting events and an active participant, reinforcing its link with the sea, its community, and the environment.
