The 2025 WASZP Pre-Games in Weymouth has become a magnet for the international foiling community. With 131 boats entered from 18 countries, this event is more than just a tune-up—it's a snapshot of the class's spirit: competitive, open, and thriving, prior to the full fleet of 247 WASZPs assembling for the WASZP Games.

Competitors span the globe, from Sweden to New Zealand, Canada to Bermuda. The fleet is diverse not only in nationality but also in age and ambition. Across the boat park, sailors aged 14 to 50+ share this unique opportunity together. From youth making their international debut to seasoned Masters, the message is clear: everyone's invited.

Some of the sharpest sailors are dialing in for Pre-Games action. Hippolyte Gruet (FRA) leads the global rankings, arriving with a strong string of European results. Chasing the target on his transom will be Frederico Bergamasco (ITA) and Gavin Ball (USA). From the home team, Peter Cope (GBR) brings serious momentum following his recent French Open victory. The fleet also boasts a strong female lineup, making up 25% of competitors. Current global rankings leader Liv Häggström (SWE) will be poised to make an impact with Pearl Lattanzi (USA) and Maja Larsson-Bergqvist (SWE).

Today's opening races will be a proving ground. After months of preparation, the sailors finally get to let fly with their boats in anger and let the action on the water do the talking.

All eyes will be on the racecourse over the next few days as the competition starts to heat up.

One thing is certain: the WASZP fleet is landing in Weymouth—and it's ready to fly.
