Legend Owners hit target to raise £20,000 for Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust at 30th Anniversary AGM

by Legend Owners / Ellen MacArthur Cancer trust 12 May 03:48 PDT

The Legend Owners Association (LOA) has been supporting The Ellen MacArthur Cancer trust as their chosen charity since 2006 and over the years has raised £19,000 for the charity. The aim was to reach £20,000 during their 30th Anniversary year of 2025.

At the LOA's 30th Annual General Meeting and anniversary celebrations, held at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre in April, an additional £1,200 was raised by enabling the 60 Legend owners present to browse the extensive stocks of Legend spare parts, and make a donation for items chosen. As a result, the target £20,000 goal was smashed 8 months ahead of the deadline. The Association will continue to support the charity, through the scheme of making a donation for Legend spares and other initiatives.

Representatives of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, Jade Beasley and Ben Williams were present to process the donations and see the target hit. Following the formal part of the AGM Jade gave a short presentation on the aims and achievements of the Trust and Ben described his own cancer journey and the impact the Trusts activities had on his recovery.

They presented LOA Rear Commodore, Howard Bentley, with an Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust burgee to commemorate the support given and the money raised.

Thanks to the long-term backing of the LOA, hundreds of young cancer survivors have benefitted from vital support after treatment. The money raised over the years has helped fund the charity's transformational adventures on which young people rediscover their independence, realise what they are capable of, and re-establish their place in the world. They stop feeling like 'the only one' by meeting others who have been through something similar, often for the first time

The Legend Owners Association was originally founded in 1995 to support owners of the Legend (Hunter Legend/Marlow Legend USA) brand of yachts. Members benefit from an extensive website and technical forum. Organised Rendezvous (Rallies) by the South, East and Welsh Coast branches of the association bring owners together. Now that Marlow Hunter (USA) has ceased trading the LOA is the UK's focal point connecting and supporting Legend Owners. Anybody who owns a Legend or wishes to purchase a pre-loved Legend please contact the Association through www.legendowners.com.
