Middle Harbour Yacht Club and Manly Yacht Club have jointly announced a Combined Clubs Sunday Series that will get under way on September 8 and conclude in April.

Both clubs are pooling their race management experience and resources to conduct the new series which will comprise eleven races over seven race days with a combination of passage races and windward-leeward sprints. Three sprint races are scheduled for each of the two sprint days.

All races will be scored on ORC, IRC and PHS for Division 1 and on ORC and PHS for Division 2.

Competition is looking strong with a variety of classes expected to enter, including a group of 40 footers.

Two Beneteau 40.7s, Neil Padden's Wailea and Graeme and Chris Lee's Farr N Away, are likely to challenge Mondo, the CYCA Winter Series winning Sydney 38 of Lisa Callaghan and Stephen Teudt along with Rob Carr and Stephanie Cook's King 40 Jambo.

Greg Wilkins/Jan Bartel's Archambault 32, Esprit, is well sailed and Kia Kaha, the Julian McPherson/Andrew Watts Young 88, is also fast.

The J/24s will be well represented with Innamincka (John Crawford), Kaotic (Catherine Rofe) and Ace (David West) already in the mix.

The clubs look forward to this new series bringing together the Middle Harbour and Manly fleets along with those from other clubs for some great racing on Sunday afternoons.

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants. Middle Sea, Transpac, Cape to Rio, Fastnet, and Hobart all spring to mind instantly, but what of the ‘lesser' races? Lots of boats in pens (slips) a lot of the time Posted on 18 May 2025
