From July 12 to 15, Barcelona will host the 16th edition of the Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona Regatta for vintage, classic, big, and modern classic boats.

The finest fleet of classic boats in the Mediterranean will compete in the waters at Barcelona Royal Yacht Club (RCNB) in a regatta that is viewed as one of the foremost events in the world of classic sailing. This is thanks to the standard exhibited by the competitors, and indeed owing to the exclusive atmosphere, the beauty of the location, and the rich cultural heritage in the area.

Once again, this year, thanks to Puig the waters of Barcelona will become a touchstone of classic sailing and will host an exceptional event for residents and visitors alike. Barcelona Royal Yacht Club, Barceloneta beach, the Port Olímpic and the Port Vell are just a few of the exceptional vantage points from which thousands of residents and visitors of Barcelona have been able to enjoy a ringside seat to this event at this time of year ever since the first edition was held in 2008.

Century-old boats from all over the globe

Around fifty classic and vintage boats from all over the globe (Spain, England, France, Italy, Argentina, United States, etc.) are expected to set sail with the aim of putting on a dignified exhibition of pure seafaring tradition, which we are seldom able to witness in major capital cities like Barcelona.

From July 12 to 15, everyone in Barcelona can benefit from a first-hand view of century-old yachts such as Yanira, Hallowe'en, Gipsy, Mariska, Marigan, and Manitou; genuine works of art that portray a historical legacy that is hard to measure.

For this the 16th edition of the Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona Regatta, four different categories have been set based on the design, age, and size of the participating yachts:

  • Vintage boats: boats launched before December 31, 1949, and built from timber or metal.
  • Classic boats: boats launched between January 1, 1950, and December 31, 1975, and built from timber or metal according to the original designs.
  • Big boats: vintage and classic boats with a length of 23 meters or more.
  • Modern classic boats: this is a new category incorporated into the regatta, the participants of which may take part on the invitation of the Organizing Committee.

The modern classic boat category opens the event up to boats launched between 1970 and 1984, the first time that these yachts have been eligible to compete.

The 16th Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona Regatta is an international event within the official calendar of the RFEV that counts towards the 13th Classic Mare Nostrum Trophy-Spanish Cup for Classic Boats, and towards the Puig Vela Clàssica-Régates Royales Challenge, the first edition of which will take place in 2023.

In keeping with its long-running track record of sports sponsorship and its commitment to Barcelona city, Puig recently announced its partnership with the 37th America's Cup, both as a global partner of the event and as Naming Partner for the inaugural Women's America's Cup. This ground-breaking initiative will provide women sailors with a platform to showcase their skills and talent in high-performance America's Cup AC40s. By supporting the Puig Women's America's Cup Regatta, Puig is exemplifying its commitment to promoting gender equality in the sport of sailing.
