About 50 athletes from around the world are registered to compete across two different disciplines: Wing Race and Freestyle/Wave.
Riders are flying in from around the world to compete at the Jeri Wingfoil Cup on Jericoacoara Beach, in the north of Brazil. World renowned for its natural beauty and spectacular big wave conditions on the Atlantic coast, Jericoacoara Beach will be the stage for two different disciplines in the competition: Wing Race and Wave/Freestyle.
The event takes place between December 13th and 18th in Ceará, with structures set up in front of the Pousada Vila Kalango, bringing the final of the World, PanAmerican and Brazilian Wingfoil circuits promoted by: International Wing Sports Association (IWSA) and World Cup Race in partnership with the Brazilian Wing Association (ABWing), the Pousada Vila Kalango and the Government of the State of Ceará.
Ceará has built a reputation for being one of the best places in the world to practise water-based and windpowered sports such as kitesurfing. Athletes and sailors from all over the world are unanimous when they describe the coast of Ceará as the best destination for training and competitions of the most diverse forms. Some important factors stand out, such as: warm water, good waves, lagoons, and most importantly, trade winds almost all year round.
Being the watersports paradise that it is, Ceará has been hosting important stages of world championships for years.
Newer disciplines of sailing, such as wingfoiling, have been attracting many riders to Ceará for incredible experiences on these beautiful waters.
As to the competitors themselves, there will be strong Brazilian representatives such as Kauli Seadi, Dudu Mazzocato and Fernando Mizo, all performing at the top of their powers in the fast developing world of wingfoiling.
Highlights of a strong international entry include: Francesco Cappuzzo, current champion of the Wing Race category in Italy, in addition to the Venezuelan Gollito Estredo, a big name in the discipline. Among the women is Paula Novotna, from the Czech Republic, Wingfoil Freestyle World Champion 2022. For the businessman and sailor Marco Dalpozzo, Vila Kalango's partner, the expectation is for a landmark event.
"This region is already widely acknowledged in the watersports arena as the most attractive brazilian destination for tourists, sailors and riders from allover the world." Mirco Babini, tour manager for the IWSA, commented: "I'm really happy and honoured to have the final in Jericoacoara.
We are expecting a great event in a beautiful location that fits this discipline perfectly. We expect a great battle with the best wingfoilers in the world, and we're excited to see who will be crowned the 2022 World Champion. Also to see who the six best-ranked riders will be, a result which will earn them a ticket to represent their country at the World Beach Games in Bali 2023. This sport is one of the fastest growing watersports in the world, and we see a lot of young people really excited about getting into wingfoiling. We are looking to grow a great legacy and pathway for young riders, and to host many more major championships in Jericoacoara in the coming years."
