Doyle Sails 2020 - Redefining Boundaries 728x90 TOP

James Sainsbury's latest home-build Moth - flying on the first sail!

by James Sainsbury 24 Jul 2022 21:49 PDT

It has been two days since my last confession and well a lot has happened!

We got off the ferry and to our fantastic AirBnB, and that's where a couple of us stayed for the next two days, fully concentrating on our new boats. Many beers, rum and small dried sausages have been consumed, but now I have a completed boat and on Sunday we went for a sail!

The maiden voyage was from the beach near our BnB to a grand entrance at the sailing club. It started in sub-foiling conditions but the sea breeze slowly built and eventually she lifted out the water and all of a sudden we were flying.

After an enjoyable first sail and a few fly-bys in front of the club we went in to a eager group of mothies that have been following the progress.

Less than 5 weeks from the day I sketched a rough design on a piece of paper, I completed the challenge I set myself. Now it is time to continue the hard work, use the Europeans to learn to sail the new design, and make refinements where I can.

A massive thank you goes to:

Without whom this would just would not have been possible.
