With the first two finals races for the ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 fleets (single fleet for ILCA 7 being less) the 'real games' for the final podium began on Saturday, the penultimate day of the EurILCA Eurocup 2nd International Torbole Spring Cup.
At the Circolo Vela Torbole, which organises this event with 512 participants in collaboration with the Circolo vela Arco, Garda Trentino Vela Consorzio and the Italian Sailing Federation, the first 71 ILCA 6 in the ranking drawn up after the first 4 races competed in the gold fleet and the out-of-class boats set the pace and above all the regularity, which makes the difference for the podium.
The reigning world champion Mattia Cesana took the lead after a 5-3 win on the day, with a 5-point advantage over Antonio Pascali, who was a bit erratic with 4 firsts, a 22nd (discarded) and a 14th. Away on 13 points is Matteo Bertacchi. With a 15-6, Chiara Benini Floriani from Rivara moved up to fourth overall (2 points behind third) and is leading the women's ranking, while Frenchwoman Cervera with a 10-20 on the day climbed to second among women and fifth overall.
The new Olympic mother Silvia Zennaro, third in her category and seventh overall, also did well today with an excellent fourth overall in race number 6. We cannot fail to mention Robert Scheidt's wife Gintare, fifteenth overall and starring in a fine third overall in today's first race. Nice first overall in the first race of the day also for Carolina Albano.
In the ILCA 7 Robert Scheidt performed a masterpiece in race 5, recovering positions in a beautiful duel in the stern against Roberto Rinaldi (U21) until beating him practically on the finish line, thanks to an early tack just before the finish, gaining the lead. The Brazilian champion remains in the lead with a 13-point advantage over Attilio Borio (U21) and 19 over Pietro Giacomoni (U21). First U19 Anatol Sassi.
Among the youngest ILCA 4 leap forward after the first two gold finals for Luca Centazzo, who with a 1-4 is first with 10 points ahead of Israeli Omer Vered Vilenchik. Third was Salvatore Falchi. Among the girls, Ginevra Caracciolo (already Optimist World Team Champion, Antigua 2019) is always in the lead, ahead of Clara Lorenzi.
Sunday the conclusion with the start for the last two races at 13:00.
