Get into fishing!

Sunday, 10 October is national Gone Fishing Day and this year's focus is on the benefits of fishing to boost your mental well-being. Time to drop a line with family and friends and hopefully catch a fish!

Don't worry if you haven't fished before - join in one of the free events below.

Sea Fisheries Events

Fishcare are running free clinics with gear available at:

  • Port Sorell Pier: 12:00 - 3:00pm
  • Wynyard Fishing Platform (women and girls clinic): 12:00 - 3:00pm

Register by emailing or on the day. Events are run according to Covid-safe guidelines.

On the East Coast, catch up with Fishcare at Orford, Triabunna, Swansea and Coles Bay between 8:00am - 3:00pm at boat ramps and fishing spots. Pick up rulers or guides or have a chat about the rules.

Inland Fisheries Events

Gone Fishing Day is an angling licence-free day. Inland Fisheries and Anglers Alliance are coordinating free junior events at:

  • Frombergs Dam, Ulverstone: 10:00am - 3:00pm
  • Taylors Dam, Latrobe: 10.00am - 3.00pm
  • Longford Fishing Club Dam, Cressy: 10.00 - 3.00pm
  • New Norfolk Anglers Junior Pond, Bushy Park: 11.00am - 2.00pm
