First, the HYS Hamble Winter Series Team hopes that all competitors are well and keeping safe during the lockdown. These are extraordinary and difficult times and those of us isolated in Hamble find the empty River and Solent both beautiful and weird in equal measures. Let's hope we will all be back on the water before too long.

Planning for the 2020 HYS Hamble Winter Series is well under way as usual and the programme is available at www.hamblewinterseries.com. Although it is unclear if things will be back to normal in October everything will be ready. Once again HRSC will be running the main HYS Hamble Winter Series, as well as the Hamble IRC Autumn Championships, the Hamble One Design Championships and the Hamble Big Boat Championships. Any classes that have been unable to sail their events during the summer are welcome to join in for the usual end of year fun, either for the entire series or one or two weekends. The Performance 40 fleet are already planning to compete on the first and third weekends of the 2020 series. Contact for more information on how to join in. We will contact competitors and classes when entries are open.

Paul Wyeth, who takes the fabulous pictures that go with our race reports and accompany our event marketing, has a promotion running during the lockdown called "Are you missing your boat?". For any prints ordered during the crisis, Paul will donate 20% to the NHS. This is a great incentive to order the picture you always wanted. Go to www.pwpictures.com. We're sure Paul, who is self-employed, will welcome the business too. To assist in helping your mood we will continue to post Pauls pictures from last year on the Hamble Winter Series Facebook page and twitter.

Finally, for those of you who have been unable to go and "hug" your boats on the river, Andy of the Hamble Water Taxi is running a Boat Watch Scheme. You can email him for further details on

Please stay home for now and stay safe. We hope to see you in October.
