The Phantom Class are pleased to announce that 2020 will see the introduction of a new South East Area Traveller Series for Phantoms.

This adds to the existing popular South West region. The aim of the series is to reduce travelling time (and cost) for sailors based in the south eastern part of the country. This is in line with the RYA policy to encourage more regional events to increase the sailing time / travelling time ratio.

As with most new ideas, we are starting with a rather modest series of 4 events (with the best 3 to count overall). The dates and venues are as follows:

  • 12th/13th April - Shoreham SC (Easter regatta)
  • 16th May - Downs SC (practice / training)
  • 17th May - Downs SC (open meeting)
  • 13th/14th June - Felpham SC (regatta)
  • 3rd October - Broadwater SC (joint open meeting with the southern region)
The events at Shoreham, Downs and Felpham are provisionally handicap events, but if enough Phantoms turn up some of these clubs will then provide a separate start.

If you are based in the south east and sail a Phantom, why not come along and support some of these events. The regions are not exclusive, so we would welcome sailors for both the South West and Eastern regions to join us as well.

Chris Shelton from Downs Sailing Club has kindly volunteered to act as the Area Representative.
