On Saturday, April 14, 2018, the Explorers Club will host its annual Sailing Stories, a day focused on sailing-based exploration and conservation at its global headquarters in New York.

Speakers include:

Richard Wilson, competed in the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe and Vendée Globe 2016-17.

Mr. Wilson previously won the Newport- Bermuda Race. When he attempted to smash the San Francisco-Boston sailing record double-handed aboard a 60-foot trimaran, Mr. Wilson capsized off Cape Horn before being rescued by a cargo vessel.

He set two new records between New York and Melbourne, and Hong Kong-New York, and finished second in the Transatlantic Race in 2004.

Carson Crain, the skipper and team leader for the United States in the 2017 Red Bull Youth America's Cup. His team, Next Generation USA, competed against 11 other countries on cutting edge, foiling 45' catamarans capable of reaching speeds over 40 mph.

Mr. Crain competed nationally and internationally as a sailor and windsurfer and was a member of the U.S. Sailing Team for 5 years. He represented the US in Men's windsurfing at the 2015 Pan American Games.

Pen Hadow, one of the world's leading explorers of the Arctic Ocean and is dedicated to protecting the wildlife and ecosystem of the international waters around the North Pole.

Mr. Hadow led two 50' yachts into the North Pole's international waters, the first non-icebreaking vessels in history to do so, to demonstrate the increasing accessibility and emerging human threat to wildlife by the reduced sea-ice cover. He is the first person to trek solo, and without resupply, across the sea ice from Canada to the North Geographic Pole.

Sara Hastreiter – Volvo Ocean Race sailor will discuss how sailing in this relentless 40,000 mile, 9 month race around the planet, known as the Mt. Everest of sailing, inspired her monumental goal to sail all seven seas and climb the Seven Summits – the seven highest mountains of the world's seven continents.

Ms. Hastreiter experience includes five Trans-Atlantic's, a true rounding of Cape Horn after 5,000 miles in the Southern Ocean, setting a world speed record in the Round Britain and Ireland race and Royal Ocean Racing Club's Multihull of the year in 2015.

Lincoln Paine, a maritime historian, author, editor, and curator whose books include the award-winning The Sea and Civilization: A Maritime History of the World, Down East: A Maritime History of Maine, and Ships of the World: An Historical Encyclopedia.

He is also an editor of Itinerario: International Journal on the History of European Expansion and Global Interaction and was editor of Sea History magazine
