All set for Plymouth Regatta 2015

by Robin Price 10 Jul 2015 19:15 AEST 17-19 July 2015

It's less than two weeks until the Plymouth Regatta 2015, organised by the Port of Plymouth Sailing Association, starts on Friday 17th July. An action packed three days awaits the high number of skippers and crew already entered but, it's not too late. Those boats planning to take part in 'The Yachtsman's Regatta' should register their interest now by visiting the website, plymouthregatta.org, where entry forms, sailing instructions and the full social diary can be viewed.

There are three fleets holding their National Championships during the regatta, the J24's, MOCRA and the fast growing Seascape class who between them are bringing nearly 40 boats to swell the numbers on the three courses being laid inside and outside the breakwater. Two IRC Classes and NHC will cater for the majority of racers needs but a special White Sail course, for those who don't normally race but want to take part, completes the organisers pledge for the regatta to be inclusive.

Race director, Neil Dunkley, said: "We're ready and waiting with everything in place for a fantastic regatta. The two IRC classes are building up nicely and with three classes battling it out to crown a National Champion it will definitely be exciting on the water. I'm delighted to see the White Sail entries well up on last year, as we are determined to make this an all inclusive regatta. Racers won't be disappointed ashore either as we've laid on superb après sail activities too."

The packed social programme in the Royal Western Club House, there are bands booked for the Friday and Saturday evening along with a number of activities throughout the day, is complemented by the Inter Club Youth Team Racing being staged at Mount Batten on Saturday. Sponsored by Neil Pryde there's a fun and action packed day for those watching from Queen Anne Battery. A host of family centered activities will be taking place for friends and family to entertain the youngsters not on the water with face painting, a BBQ and a fascinating street artist to mention just a few of the stalls, while still keeping a close eye on the race course which is in full view from the shore side.

Throughout the three days the Regatta's nominated charity, Rame Head NCI, will be organizing raffles and collecting to support their vital watch programme – for those who haven't yet, it's time to visit the Regatta website, www.plymouthregatta.org for the full details and fill out your entry form.
