Laser EPS Nationals at Burton Sailing Club

by Howard Astley-Jones 23 Jun 2007 17:35 AEST 16-17 June 2007

The Laser EPS National Championships were held for the first time in seven years at Burton Sailing Club when a resurgence of interest brought enthusiastic owners together at Foremark reservoir.

An expectant fleet was greeted to very light and tricky airs over the weekend with the race team doing a fantastic job to run five of the six scheduled races.

The racing was excellent with four different race winners over the weekend. Simon Bates showed increasing form particularly with a first and second in the last two races but the consistency of the top three kept him just in fourth place. John Codner showed excellent speed to finish third with Roy McLean from Strathclyde in second overall with no result outside the top three. Howard Astley-Jones clinched the title of EPS National Champion with two race wins on the last day.

An excellent event which was enjoyed by all competitors with thanks to the hospitality of Burton Sailing Club.
