Gold medallist Sarah Ayton MBE took time out from her Olympic campaign to visit Desborough SC on the River Thames to name four new RS Tera’s and an RS Feva bought for the club’s cadets with a National Lottery “Awards for All” grant.
Sarah, accompanied by Olympic windsurfing medallist Nick Dempsey, was greeted by over 20 enthusiastic young sailors all taking part in the club’s RYA training courses. Sarah and Nick talked to the children about their early sailing experiences before naming the boats and baptising them with water from the Thames!
Sarah generously presented Commodore Bob Baker with a magnificent trophy – the Ayton Endeavour Trophy, which was awarded for the first time to Lewis Keefe for his determined sailing during the inaugural RS Tera Open held at the club the following weekend.
