Loch Ness Monster Long Distance Race for Cats

by Chris Browning 19 Jan 2004 23:27 PST 28th August 2004

Peterhead SC in association with SNECCA, the Scotland & North of England Catamaran Class Association, are staging the first annual Loch Ness 'Monster' Catamaran Long Distance Race, the longest fresh water race of its kind in the UK.

The Race is scheduled for the August Bank Holiday weekend, taking place on Saturday 28th August, with Sunday 29th in reserve.

The race starts from the beach at Dores, a short drive from Inverness, and travels the full length of the Great Glen, turning at Fort Augustus and returning to Dores, a total distance of 50+ miles in a straight line, on fresh water.

The Loch, famous for its castles and particular breed of wildlife, varies in width from 3/4 mile to nearly 2 miles maximum, making this the ultimate windward leeward course. Almost all wind directions result in a wind funnel straight up and down the Loch, testing competitors boat handling and endurance.

Full details will be available in due course on the snecca website at www.snecca.org.uk and through the catamaran.co.uk portal. For further information, contact Chris Browning at cbrowning@btconnect.com

Go on, it's not as far away as you think!
