A Rodkicker rigid vang is designed to enhance sail handling during reefing and allows for greater sail trim control.
During reefing, the Rodkicker prevents the boom from falling into the cockpit or onto the coach roof. When equipped with a gas spring, it automatically elevates the boom upon release of the control line, lifting the boom away from crew and the boat alike, ensuring the mainsail is depowered throughout the manoeuvre and reducing the effort required to tension the reefing line.
The gas spring also renders the Rodkicker particularly effective for adjusting the main sail in light winds. The fitted spring forces the boom to be lifted, promoting twist into the mainsail instead of the normal tightening of the leech from the weight of the boom.
Adding control lines accessible from both sides of the deck, enables crew members to quickly release the vang from the windward side. The vang features a 4:1 Dyneema® core cascade system, allowing for multi purchase installations to suit all vessels. Rodkicker 50 generates a return force of 10,000N, utilizing two Seldén gas springs, each rated at 5,000N.
The Rodkicker 50 joins our range of manually operated Rodkickers and is specifically sized for yachts measuring between 50 and 55 feet. In the absence of the Rodkicker 50, Seldén hydraulic vangs have typically been installed on this size of yacht. The Rodkicker 50 now provides the market with a choice between hydraulic systems, or the benefits of ease of use and a straightforward installation process.
A complete Rodkicker 50 including gas springs retails at £3,208 excluding VAT.
