2009 Tornado World Championship Day 4

The forecast North wind arrived early on Lake Garda today, but she brought again light and tricky conditions for the Tornado catamarans sailing in the 2009 Tornado World Championship and the series leaders Bundock and Ashby took a dive today.
While for much of the week, the right has paid with the southerlies, today with the northerly it was not a one way track and lots of possibilities for gains …and losses.
The Greek team of Iordanis Paschalidis and Konstantinos Trigonis won the race. 'Both sides were giving good opportunities; you just had to get it right. And we did' said Trigonis. The Greeks are now third overall. Belgians Carolijn Brouwer and Jeroen Van Leeuwen with a fifth today, have slipped back into fourth place.
The 2008 Tornado World Champions and 2009 series leaders, Australia's Darren Bundock and Glenn Ashby after dominating the series winning every single race up to now, were caught on the wrong side of a couple of shifts and finished ninth in today’s race, their discard, which still leaves them seven points ahead of the Austrians Thomas Zajac and Thomas Czajka.
The two Thomas' had another good and consistent race finishing second and are still holding second place overall position.
As the wind died the boats were sent to shore to wait for the afternoon breeze to fill in. But unfortunately it never arrived and racing was abandoned for the day.
Tomorrow, Friday, is the last day of racing of the 2009 Tornado World Championship. At this stage Bundock and Ashby look certain to win, but the fight for the other two podium places is far from over.
