The 14th Hobie 14 World Champion has been crowned. The Hobie 14 was the original catamaran designed by Hobie Alter. The 14 was originally designed to be sailed with just a main sail. Created in 1968, the Hobie 14 is the first catamaran built by Hobart (« Hobie ») Alter, one of the fathers of the modern surfing and founder of the Hobie Brand.

This small easy-to-identify catamaran with its asymmetrical hulls and simple rig initiated at its time a revolution in watersports and continues to make the adrenaline rise.

With only one race sailed today Arnaud Thieme (France) managed to maintain his lead after 17 hard fought races. The lead in the world championship changed constantly with Oliver Stoltenberg (Germany). Georgia Warren-Myers (Australia) finished a well earned third after and becomes the first woman on the podium for a Hobie 14 Worlds.

Sailors from France, Germany, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Brazil, South Africa and Poland have all participated in this world championships.

A new world champion team in the fourth Hobie Dragoon Worlds has also taken place. The Hobie Dragoon was designed by Hobie Cat Europe as a youth trainer for racing. Age target was 12 to 14 years. Double trapeze and spinnaker option to introduce young sailors to high performance.

Tom Heinrich (Germany) and Lea Selin Zisler(Germany) lead from Day one. But was always kept honest by Brandon Wijtenburg (RSA) and Todd Fisher (RSA). Lukas Vermeulen (Belgium) and Alexander Van Grotenhuis (Belgium) was third. Being a junior class the talent shown by the young sailors it is very clear we have future multihull champions.

The Hobie Tigers and Wild Cats have one more day of racing to conclude their world championships.
