Nacra Worlds and Finn European Championships - Lack of breeze on Day 1

At the Nacra 17 World Championship in the Netherlands and the Finn European Championship in Germany, a lack of breeze has led to the cancellation of the opening day of racing.

Both events were scheduled to begin on Monday with crews spending the day on shore waiting for any breeze to appear.

Late in the day the Nacra 17 fleet in The Hague was released from shore as a light sea breeze filtered through, but the breeze had disappeared before racing could begin.

In Warnemunde, Germany, the 103 entrants in the Finn Europeans didn’t get as far as the Nacras, with the sailors waiting on shore until racing was cancelled at 5pm.

'We didn’t get any racing in today but did manage to get a tan in the German heat wave,' said Australian Finn sailor Jake Lilley. 'We sat in the club all day with the wind getting to a maximum of four knots before dying off again.

'The race management will probably push for three races and an early start tomorrow,' he said. 'I’m in good spirits for tomorrow and the rest of the regatta, can’t wait to get some racing in.'

More on the Australian Sailing Team is available on the team website.
