AAM Cowes Week 2014 - Video highlights from Day 1 to 4

by Fran Mattinson/Sail-World on 7 Aug 2014 Day four of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week started with a minute's silence, plus HMS Mersey sailing past the Royal Yacht Squadron with a gun salute in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the start of the World War 1.



Day three was one of windshifts, gusts and lulls in a mostly south-westerly breeze that averaged 8-10 knots, until a stronger west-southwesterly that reached 18 knots, became established mid afternoon. Early light airs caused the first start, for the Victory class in honour of its 80th anniversary to be postponed. The rest of the day saw plenty of sun and great sailing.



Family Day at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week provided another great day of racing under clear skies with a steady south-westerly breeze of 13-17 knots that built to give gusts of 20 knots by the end of the afternoon.



The opening day of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes week saw competitors challenged by winds that varied from well under 10 knots to more than 20. After a weather front cleared the race area at lunchtime the breeze settled into a brisk south-westerly of 16-20 knots, giving glorious racing conditions and once again bathing Cowes in warm sunlight.
