SOS Ocean Racing - Ian Thomson off NSW with many issues

by SOS Media on 9 Jun 2010
Sunrise off Hobart - SOS Ocean Racing Ian Thomson
In the first week of May 2010, Ian Thomson set off to break the current Solo Around Australia Record for monohulls which stands at 68 Days 8 Hours and 30 minutes set by David Beard aboard the 35ft Skaffie II.

SOS Ocean Racing is about raising awareness of what damage plastic bags does to the environment, in particular the marine environment. With over 100,000 marine animals and 1 million sea birds dying from plastic suffocation or entanglement every year, it is time to get rid of the 'Convenient' plastic bag and use other options.

To help Ian with his campaign simply logon to his website www.sosoceanracing.com and vote in the very short online poll.

Latest news update from Ian

I don't have enough power and there are so many issues with the boat right now. I am looking to make a pitstop in Sydney without breaking the regulations.

My GPS isn't working and I'm navigating by charts alone. Currently 120nm south of Sydney with broken fan belts to add to the mix. Its been an amazing time being out here and knowing I am so close to the finish it is frustrating me to the ength degree of how it will all come together.

With all the stop and starts its just really frustrating how it has come to this. I know I am so close but yet so far. Airlie Beach get your party hats and streamers ready as I am not far from the finish and not far from home!
