Nomination process for Australian Olympic Team

The final version of the Olympic Sailing Nomination Process for the 2008 Australian Olympic Team has been approved by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and the Yachting Australia Board.

The Nomination Process and is to be completed in two stages:

Stage One requires athletes completing a Baseline Performance by achieving the following results:

1) 1st – 10th place overall finish at an Olympic Class World Championship (incl. 2007 ISAF World Sailing Championships)
2) 1st – 5th place overall finish at an Olympic Class European Championship in 2006 or 2007 (or North American Championships in 2006 – Star class only)3)
1st – 3rd place overall finish at one of the following regattas (min. fleet size to be 20 boats):
2007 Miami Olympic Class Regatta
2007 Princess Sofia Regatta
2007 ISCYRA Western Hemisphere Championships – Star class only
2006 or 2007 Semaine Olympique Francaise Regatta
2006 or 2007 Holland Regatta
2006 or 2007 Kiel Week

Stage Two involves the Nomination Panel determining the crews to be nominated to the AOC.

The Yachting Australia Board has appointed the following Independent Chairman and six person Nomination Panel:

Andrew Plympton - President - Yachting Australia
Michael Jones - Olympic Sailing Program Director - Yachting Australia
Victor Kovalenko - National Head Coach – Yachting Australia
Mark Turnbull - Olympic Gold Medallist, Chairman of Sail Melbourne
Sarah Kenny - International Sailboarder, Partner at Freehills Solicitors
John Boultbee - Past Director of the Australian Institute of Sport, High Performance Director - Football Australia

The final version of the Nomination Process is confirmation of the information first provided to interested athletes in August of 2006 and periodically updated in December 2006 and February 2007.
