Action is now underway on Pensacola Bay in the 11th annual US Junior Olympic Sailing Festival and Subway® SailFest regatta. Saturday there were 49 boats on the four circles of racing and on Sunday one more will join the fleet.

For 2012, the Formula 16 Catamarans are a new addition to the annual event. This is the first ever US Sailing Junior Olympic regatta to include Olympic style catamarans.

Subway® restaurant’s local Chairman Tim Wheat, owner of 10 regional stores said, 'The local Subway owners are proud to sponsor this local youth sailing event for the fourth year in a row. We are excited at the 50-boat turnout, the largest we’ve seen since this was the regional Optimist Championship. We are especially happy to see the exciting Formula 16 catamarans on Pensacola Bay.'

The young sailors and their families have come to Pensacola from Birmingham, Sarasota, Ft. Lauderdale, and from Gulf Yachting association Clubs from Panama City to New Orleans. The festivities at Pensacola Yacht Club started on Friday, June 19th with high-powered coaching clinics and conclude with the prizegiving ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

Robbie Daniel was the guest speaker at the regatta dinner Saturday night at Pensacola Yacht Club.

Seven races were scheduled for Saturday and seven more Sunday on courses in Pensacola Bay south of Plaza de Luna Park. Spectators are invited.

The public is invited to come out on the bay to enjoy some spectacular racing and help PYC and these young sailors celebrate sailing.

11th annual US Junior Olympic Sailing Festival and Subway® SailFest regatta on the Gulf Coast are presented again this year by local SW Alabama and NW Florida Subway® restaurants. Pensacola Yacht Club in Pensacola, Florida.
