by Byte Class Association on 9 Apr 2007
Keerati with Khun Alex Skaria, RVYC Commodore, Khun John Heinecke representing Sizzler, the principle sponsors, and Khun Anirut Posakrisna, YRAT Technical Director - 2007 Byte CII World Championship Byte Class http://bytechamps.org/
Byte CII World Championship 2007 was captured by young Thai sailor Keerati Bualung, a 14 year old sailing with the maturity of someone twice his age, with an eight-race score of 22 points, Seven points better than his Singaporean competitor, Herman Nurfendi, in second place with 29 points. Herman won four of the 10 races but had a third bad race which he could not drop. The Thai team were the surprise of the regatta, sailing the Bytes for the first time and putting three in the top 12. However, it is fair to say that, between Keerati and Herman, they dominated the regatta.

Valerie Chia of Singapore was fourth and isl the winner of the Women's World Championship. This is her third Byte World's and the win was well deserved. Third overall therefore goes to Fabio Ramos BRA, part of the new and upcoming Brazilian Byte Class being built by builder Armada Boats in Sao Paulo. fifth overall was Joanne Tay SIN. The International Class is now working with the Brazilian Byte Class Association to try and stage the 2009 Worlds in Brazil.

Rounding out the top seven were Khee Zi Yang SIN who moved up to sixth overall and second in the Sizzler (Race one) Trophy and in seventh overall, a third female, Katja Borstnar SIN, who was at the Worlds in Lake Garda but missed Bermuda. She was also top female in the Sizzler Trophy race.

The Ronstan Pre-Worlds were won by Herman Nurfendi SIN who will have a free charter and entry to the 2008 Worlds. Second was Fabio Ramos BRA and third Zachary Poon SIN. Top female was Valerie Chia SIN.

The top Master, (over 40) went to Denise Chagas of Brazil who was also the fifth placing female in the event.
