Youth Clinegatta at Oakcliff set for July

by Oakcliff Sailing on 22 Jun 2012
SW
In only a few short weeks (July 5-8), Oakcliff will hold what is becoming an annual Youth Clinegatta for match racing. The target audience is 16-23 year old sailors who want to improve their sailing and match racing skills.

Now that the college sloop Nationals is a match racing format, this is a great way to prepare yourself and your team for Nationals. The format is called a Clinegatta because it combines two days of clinic with two days of a Grade 4 match race regatta with coaching throughout the whole four days. The event is co-sponsored by North U.

Dave Perry is currently the US National Match Race Champion, a title he has held four times, and Rules Advisor for Artemis Racing, the Challenger of Record for the 34th America’s Cup. Oakcliff is honored to welcome board member Perry for his only Oakcliff coaching event this year. The event will be sailed in Oakcliff’s Swedish Match 40’s which are great boats that have been purposely designed for match racing. As Perry said, how wonderful to have these young sailors getting the opportunity to sail these great boats.

Space is still available so get your team together and register on the Oakcliff Sailing website. If your team is not able to join you, you can register as an individual.

Concurrent with the Youth event, Oakcliff will host a US Sailing Umpire Seminar led by Bruce Cook. Parents or anybody else interested in becoming an Umpire is welcome to sign up for the one day clinic on July 6th with on the water experience and evaluations July 7th and 8th.
