Sailing holidays - have you forgotten Western Canada?

by Des Ryan on 4 Jun 2012
As well as the excitement, so many peaceful anchorages SW
So you've sailed the Mediterranean and the Caribbean - maybe you've even sailed in the South Pacific and other exotic locations - but what about Canada? Western Canada?

If you've never thought of it, think again. The Pacific Northwest is rated as one of the world's top sailing destinations, and for good reason!

From Sunsail's new charter base, for instance, in Sidney on Vancouver Island, over 2,000 islands are accessible throughout both Canada and U.S. waters, specifically The Gulf Islands, Sunshine Coast, Desolation Sound and San Juan Islands. Sailors can expect to cruise alongside pods of whales and dolphins, as well as spot all types of wildlife from bald eagles to grizzly bears. There are waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, leafy forests and beaches.

This region offers something for everyone. Those who charter a sailing boat to see the area can also enjoy active pursuits such as biking, kayaking, and hiking, while also tasting superb farm fresh cuisine and locally produced wines.

Then, don't forget that for cosmopolitan sophistication, culinary flair and a hip artsy scene, Vancouver is the place to be.

...and it's never been easier, because just this week Sunsail have announced further expansion of its worldwide cruising destinations to include Vancouver Island, British Columbia

This destination will offer Bareboat and Skippered Yacht Charters beginning May 2012 with itineraries throughout nature's top cruising grounds in both the Canada and United States.

It is also home to Vancouver International Airport, which is served by over 60 airlines connecting travellers to more than 95 destinations in Canada, the U.S. and around the world.

From here, a ferry transfer to Vancouver Island offers a pleasant introduction to this beautiful cruising ground. The newly partnered Island Cruising fleet available for Sunsail charters will initially consist of monohulls between 31- to 47-feet from Beneteau, Bavaria, Dufour, and Hanse.

For more information just Google Sunsail and you'll be automatically directed to a place where you can get more information and then make the booking.
