At the eighth Asia Boating Awards, organized by Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating magazines, the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club won 'Best Asian Yacht Club of the Year' and 'Best Asian Regatta of the Year' gongs.

Collecting the honors on behalf of the yacht club, general manager Mark Bovaird, left, expressed his gratitude to the organizers, judges and sponsors of the awards.

Bovaird said he was proud of the recognition of the efforts of members and staff who constantly strive to promote and develop the club's core sports of sailing and rowing both within Hong Kong and internationally.

Readers of Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating voted on the winners, which were eventually chosen by an independent panel of industry experts familiar with the Asian and international yachting scene.

About the Club:
Founded as Hong Kong Corinthian Sailing Club in 1890, the club became the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in 1894. It is one of the few local institutions to keep the 'Royal' prefix after Hong Kong's handover to the People's Republic of China in 1997.

Early members were British only with military personnel on the board. Today, membership is open to all, and it encapsulates both sailing and rowing as part of its activities.

Located at Kellett Island in Causeway Bay, the Club moved there in 1938. It has been renovated and updated since, and the building has been listed as a Grade III historic building since 22 January 2010.

Kellett Island in Causeway Bay is the Club's principal base, and acts as the parent site to the two smaller branches of the Club, at Shelter Cove near Sai Kung which is the base for cruisers, and Middle Island in Repulse Bay which is home to dinghy sailors, sail training and rowing.
